In-House Design and Drafting Services
Lakeside Lumber offers in-house design and drafting services so you can see your project before you break ground. Our drafter Jamie works with homeowners, contractors, and builders to produce complete plans for new homes, lake homes, cabins, shouses, additions, remodels, garages, pole barns, and more — from Fergus Falls to Alexandria and Ottertail to Glenwood and everywhere in between.
See Your Project Before You Build It
Jamie uses Chief Architect to produce detailed floor plans, exterior elevations, interior layouts, and photorealistic 3D renderings of your project. We can project your design on a large screen right in our showroom — walk through every room, see the view from your kitchen window, change siding colors, move walls, and make decisions with confidence before committing to a final plan.

Jamie is your single point of contact from first sketch to final plans. He works directly with homeowners, contractors, and builders using Chief Architect to design homes, cabins, garages, pole barns, and commercial buildings. Walk-ins welcome — or call ahead to set up a meeting.
Our drafting service covers residential, agricultural, and commercial projects across Otter Tail, Douglas, and Grant Counties. If you can build it, we can draw it.
Permit-Ready Drawings
We produce permit-ready construction drawings that you can submit directly to your local building department — floor plans, exterior elevations, cross-sections, and site plans. No need to hire a separate drafting service or architect for standard residential and agricultural projects.
How the Process Works
Step 1: Initial Meeting — Call us or send an email to set up a meeting with Jamie. Meetings can be in person at our showroom or virtual. Bring any sketches, ideas, or inspiration photos you have. If you are starting from scratch, that is fine too.
Step 2: Design Development — Jamie builds your plan in Chief Architect and produces 3D renderings so you can see the exterior and interior of your project. We revise the design until you are satisfied.
Step 3: Final Plans — Once the design is locked in, we produce permit-ready drawings and a complete materials list. From there we put together a complete estimate for all the building materials you will need — every item accounted for, no surprises.
Cost
Design and drafting services are provided under a simple drafting agreement and are free when you purchase your framing package from Lakeside Lumber. Your plans lead directly into a complete, itemized estimate — every board, every nail, every piece of hardware — so you know exactly what your project costs before you break ground.
